_Children's Author - Gail Langer Karwoski

Picture
Do you love children’s books? Me too! My name is Gail Karwoski. I’m an American children’s author.
I live in Georgia, near the university town of Athens. I created this kid site so readers can find information about my books and me.

If you’re a teacher or media specialist, check out my school visits - I present programs in many schools, all over the country, and at conferences each year. Plus, if you are a current or aspiring children’s writer, I have a special section for writers.

Testing Ground
My first Kindle e-book is ready for you to download at Amazon!

It's a historical novel set in the North during the Civil Rights era (1968).
The focus is on the friendship between Debbie, a sixth grader, and a new girl - the first black girl at school.
Can one friendship and two brave girls make Martin Luther King's dream come true?

My latest novel!
The worst hurricane in our country's history hits New Orleans, and Chazz and Lyric manage to escape the floodwaters by climbing onto a roof. When they finally get rescued, the kids face danger and confusion at the Convention Center. Where are their missing family members? This harrowing story is based on actual events. In the aftermath of disaster, Chazz and Lyric discover what it really means to be home.

Shout out: This is a 2013 Gold Moonbeam Winner!
And a Notable Book for Older Readers!
selected as a 2013 Sydney Taylor Book Award winner by the Association of Jewish Libraries

Search and Rescue Dogs
 from Capstone Press

All about the amazing dogs that find people trapped under buildings, lost in the wilderness, and buried by avalanches. Full of action photos and real-life accounts of canine heroes and the people who team with them. This book tells how these dogs are trained to follow their noses. It shows them at work in earthquakes, bombings, and hurricanes.
